Builder/type: Hudson-Hunslet 20hp
Works number/year built: 2469/1943
Previous bases: New to Mod; Strensall Brick and Tile works; Alne Tile Works, Hemingborough near Selby; Abbey Light Railway; Welsh Highland Heritage Railway; Statfold Barn railway.
Notes on the prototype: Standard 20hp Hudson Hunslet with 2-cyulinder Ailsa-Craig diesel engine. Used regularly in the 80s due to engine problems in the 90s it’s use was limited. The engine was rebuilt in the early 00’s, thereafter becoming a favourite on passenger trains (in fine weather!)
Notes on the model: Atlas was the first loco I built for the layout. It is a fairly standard build of the whitemetal kit by Nonneminstre. I added details specific to Atlas, such as the air brake compressor, reservoir tank and hoses as well as the driver’s seat in the cab. It was originally fitted with a Wrightlines motor bogie, but when this started showing signs of wear and the running quality diminishing it now has a replacement unit built by Mark Clark / Locos ‘n’ stuff.
